We all make those jokes about counting up our kids when going on trips 1-2-3-4-6 OK we are all here. The most important thing for a parent is to count everybody properly because it would be a big problem if it really happens that chas v'shalom one is missing.
Just imagine having 100 children. It would be very hard to account for all of them at once. Now lets imagine having hundreds of people in one group.
In this weeks parsha pashas bamidbar hashem tells moshe to do a census a census is where everybody in the nation is counted up. In the history of the bnai yisrael it has happened ten times but why, why do we need to count everybody up. Hashem knows who and where everybody is why do we need to make a census?
Everybody's children are precious. (no matter how crazy of a relationship you have with them) For example if you have jewels. You automatically know exactly how many there every time of day. But every time you count them it gives you a sense of pride so you do it. So too your kids you want to count them also because they are precious.
We need to realize that hashem is our father and he runs the world no matter what we do. And believe me he counts every day when a chessed is done or anything else. But he also counts when chas v'shalom its not that way so we should make it that hashem will only count the good things and bring.
All the best
