Just Light The Candle - Bamidbar/Shavuot

Updated: Jun 6, 2024

During, this past week, I did an experiment by taking a bunch of candles and placing them in the center of a dark room. I then watched as one candle lit all the other candles. One may ask what was the experiment? Furthermore, what could you possibly learn from lighting a bunch of candles? The answer is that my experiment was to see what the effects were of placing candles together in the center of a room. The results were that even one candle can light up many candles and make extreme amounts of light.

In this week's Parsha, Parshas Bamidbar, we learn that Hashem told the Jewish people to make a census. The emphasis of a census, as the Rebbe says, is the thousands or millions of individuals that come together as one nation as part of the same count. The emphasis is on each of these people with their individual strengths, doing their best to light up the world.

The mission this weekend with the upcoming holiday of Shavuos is to be a candle and inspire the world. Using the present of the Torah that Hashem gave us, we can all rise up to be higher and untouchable from the reaches of golus. We could inspire the world and, like the experiment achieved, with our one candle, we could light up many candles throughout the world!

Good shabbos!

All the best
