This week, I had the opportunity to watch my young cousins while their parents were at work. During that time, we watched a show about someone who did everything different than the standard. For example, instead of saying "come in", they would say "come out". The lesson was that you don't need to do everything according to the "norm" in order to succeed in this world.
In this week's Parsha, Hashem instructs Moshe to tell Aaron that he should light the menorah. On a practical level, Hashem was telling Aaron to go into the dark Bais Hamikdash and use the menorah to make a difference. It didn’t matter what anyone else was doing, Hashem said to light the menorah!
Let's take this message to heart. A lesson for this week can be that it doesn't matter what the rest of the world is doing because we shouldn't be affected in our avoda. In this way we can work towards illuminating this world without affect and bring Moshiach!
