Why Chabad? - Yud Shevat/Beshalach

During this week, my yeshiva and I went to daven by the ohel of the Rebbe in honor of Yud Shevat. On this day, the Rebbe took over leadership of Lubavitch after the previous Rebbe passed away. This change was the beginning of a transformation that Lubavitch and the world has never seen.

Throughout this week, I asked myself why thousands of people would travel hundreds of miles for the smallest amount of time. The Rebbe means so much to every single person which is why people would disrupt a regular work day to travel for a visit. But what did the Rebbe do to deserve such a great honor? The answer is that we are like the Rebbe's children. We mean a lot to him. An example of this is that the Rebbe would stand for hours giving out dollars even when standing for that amount of time is exhausting for anyone.

This idea is a reminder that when the Rebbe brought out directives which were important to him, they therefore should become important to us. In the same way a son does something for a father because he recognizes its value we should do another of the Rebbe’s directives. In this merit, we should complete our mission and enter into the geulah which will be recognition that we fulfilled what we are here for.
