The Power of Connection - Beshalach

Sima Ross

This Shabbos is my birthday, and it got me thinking. Baruch Hashem, I am involved in many projects. Everything I do is L'iluy Nishmas my cousin, Sima bas Mordechai Yosef, who passed away over three years ago.

But why does it matter? She’s been gone for so long!

In this week’s Parsha, Bnei Yisroel leave Mitzrayim. And what do they take with them? Yosef’s bones. Why? Because they promised Yosef that when they left, they would take his bones with them. But that promise was made around 200 years earlier! Why did they feel the need to honor it?

The lesson we learn from this is that even after someone physically leaves Olam Hazeh, they are still connected to it and to the people in it. Their desires, too, should still be fulfilled.

May we all be zoche to be reunited with our family and friends with the coming of Moshiach, speedily, today!

Good Shabbos
