Reaching For Spiritual Heights! - Ki Teitzie

When a king is scheduled to visit your town, a feeling of excitement fills the air! A king is such an important person and to have a chance of interaction makes waiting in line for hours worth every second. In the month of Elul, the king is so close that it’s as if he’s staying in your home. No lines, no queues, just endless possibilities of interaction!

The word Elul is comprised of four letters: Alef, Lamed, Alef, Lamed. A chassidic discourse of the Alter Rebbe’s about Elul explains that these four letters stand for Ani L’dodi V’dodi Li which means, “I am to my beloved as my beloved is to me”. In this case, “I am to my beloved” can be achieved by doing mitzvos which will make us become closer to Hashem. The way that “my beloved is to me" would be explained as Hashem giving us inspiration to continue serving Him!

A mission in Elul that we can all do would be to make an improvement in our relationship with Hashem! Just because the king is in the town doesn't mean that you are ready to greet him but, despite that, you will commit to take the proper steps. Let’s keep this in mind during the weeks leading towards Rosh Hashana and, hopefully, this year we will all celebrate it in Yerushaliam!
