I am important! - Terumah

Sima Ross

Growing up in a family of boys made me think a lot about the roles of men and women. Are women less important? Why do men say a bracha thanking Hashem for not making them women? If men are greater, why did Hashem create women at all?

This week’s Parsha talks about the building of the Mishkan. Who were the first to give? The women—surprisingly.Who did not give the Machatzis HaShekel? The women.

This teaches an important lesson: men and women are not the same. But does that mean one is better than the other? No. Hashem gave each different roles, and both are needed. Just as no two people are exactly alike, a man and a woman cannot switch places. Whether a girl grows up with brothers or a boy grows up with sisters, each has a special nature and purpose.

This week, think about your role and how you can help bring Moshiach now.

Good Shabbos

All the best!
