If you look inside a clock, you'll see that it is run by many gears. Each individual gear has a job and if one of the spokes on any given gear is broken the whole entire clock becomes dysfunctional. The greatest lesson to learn, is that each and every little spoke matters and if even one of them would be broken or damaged you will no longer have a working clock. In this week's Parsha, Parshas Vayeishev, we take an in-depth look at Yaakov's family. Each person played a unique role in the family and each one mattered to the succession of history that created today. The problem is that one of the important components in Yaakov's family was sold, thereby changing the family dynamic.
We need to be a family, whether it is within our immediate family, or our extended family of Klal Yisroel. The Arizal says Klal Yisroel is like a human body. Each and every neshama is like a limb in the human body, and if one member of Klal Yisroel is missing, or is working against the other, it makes the entire body dysfunctional, just as a clock that has a missing component is rendered un-usable.
This week let's try to raise our levels of Ahavas Yisroel. Let’s learn from Yaakov’s family, and value each gear and spoke as our clock ticks towards Moshiach.
