Step Out of Your Comfort Zone! - Bo

Sima Ross

I want to start by thanking my cousin, Avroham Yehudah, for giving me the opportunity to join him in spreading Torah. And thank you—all of you—for clicking on this email!

As you know from last week, I started something called SHA. I’m organizing programs whenever I can to get the girls more involved. Getting speakers takes effort and means stepping out of my comfort zone. When I called the first two people on my list, I panicked—and they said no. I kept wondering, what’s the point if they’re going to say no?

Then, one night, my siblings invited me to watch something with them. They didn’t know what they wanted to watch, so my brother put on something random. But was it really random? Not at all. The video was about stepping out of your comfort zone!

Life is like a down escalator—if you don’t run up, you’ll move down. Staying still is not an option. Staying in your comfort zone pulls you down, but stepping out of it lifts you up. Our comfort zones exist to help us grow!

And that’s precisely what happened. I stayed home from a class trip on Wednesday and made many phone calls. Everything I thought would turn people off made them consider it! (And I found someone! Now I’m working on getting more speakers for future programs.)

In this week’s Parsha, Hashem tells Moshe, “Come to Pharaoh,” in his palace, where he lived in all his glory. Why did Moshe have to go to Pharaoh in his palace? It must have been intimidating and way out of his comfort zone. On top of that, everyone who accompanied him at first ran away—why didn’t he do the same? He was just a simple shepherd before leading Bnei Yisroel out of Mitzrayim. That was a huge leap out of his comfort zone.

So, how did he have the courage to do it? Moshe showed us how important it is to step beyond our comfort zones. If he hadn’t, we may never have left Mitzrayim. Every time we push ourselves beyond our limits, we take another step toward the Geulah—may it come speedily today!

Good Shabbos,

All the best,

Sima Ross
