Make The Sparks Fly! - Vayikra!

Rosh Chodesh Nissan is this shabbos which means Pesach is a few days away! Many people are already cleaning their houses of chametz. I think that, during the month of Pesach, cleaning takes on a different meaning. When faced with a seemingly tremendous obstacle such as cleaning for Pesach, where does motivation come from to accomplish your goal? The answer is that you know that the quicker you clean for pesach, the easier it is to be ready for a nice Korbon Pesach sandwich on the Seder night.

Recently, I've had the opportunity to learn a chassidic discourse of the Alter Rebbe in which he mentioned a concept called “Sheviras Hakelim”. Translated into English as breaking of the vessels, the idea can be thought of as a world with too much light for the existing vessels to hold, causing them break and fall. To visualize this, think of a balloon filled with an overwhelming amount of water bursting and spreading its contents all over the floor.  The breaking of the vessels in a higher world created a mission for us to pick up the pieces in this world and create a new vessel.

The only way to feel good about Pesach cleaning, is to understand that you are picking up the sparks from a higher world. This gives us a mission to accomplish! Regardless of whether it's Nissan or the rest of the year, everything causes us to elevate more sparks and hopefully bring moshiach!

Have an amazing shabbos!

All the best
